After official notice to proceed from WSF on January 5, 2009, significant detail engineering was accomplished to resolve final design issues, and produce the modeling and drawings necessary to construct all elements of the vessel’s structure and systems. As engineering progressed, all major equipment was identified and placed on order. Most bulk material has been placed on order as well. All major subcontractors have been identified and contracted to perform their respective parts of the job.

Large sections of the vessel called “units” or “modules” are fabricated by Todd and several subcontractors throughout the Puget Sound Region. Todd is assembling and erecting the units that comprise the main hull of the vessel inside the building hall at our Harbor Island facility. The new ferry’s keel was laid at Todd on July 8, 2009. Units fabricated by others are to be shipped to Todd, where they will be erected into position and joined to adjacent units.

The vessel’s main equipment including engines, reduction gears, generators, etc., will be loaded at various stages of construction into the vessel’s structure. Likewise, the vessel’s electrical, piping, ventilation, and other systems will be installed onboard as the vessel’s structure becomes available.
